"The true star of the show was computer animation by Judson Wright."
- Culture Shock Magazine

This Mabou Mines show is a major production with the actors suspended from mid-air by trapeze, sets of scattered ferns and televisions, and my cartoon interacting with it all, projected about 20 sq feet. The live staged shennanigans directed by MacArthur Genius Award winning Lee Breuer. All in all, I'd have to say, this is the funnest show imaginable.

The human actors speak and the cartoon mouths move in synch. Live musicians play and the drawings dance to the beat. Though transparent to an audience, this is a major turning point in theater production. It's like making a custom a CD for sound cues, instead of using a reel to reel with a lot of post-its stuck to the tape. Remember that? Well, probably not everyone will but if you did performance work, it may bring back traumatic memories.

Behind the audience, a computer allows events on stage to interact with the cartoon. A thrilling alternative to linear analog methods which required the cast and crew to keep timed to film or video. Actors, directors, choreographers etc always insist that theoretically that should work, but in reality does maybe 15% of the time. Instead, his program allows the video to obey the live action. Using computers to create custom interactivity for every production just plain makes sense.

this is a conversion of the original Director files un-interactivated loop in Flash, to show folks what the animated collages looked like.

Here is a sketch I did for
the character Tin, the
rhino/black marketeer.

every show needs dancing monkeys!

This is a pic of Sean as Tin with the
